60 Seconds to Better Health

We are all super busy and I used to think it was during certain times of the year only. Well, that has expanded to every single day all throughout the year.

I haven’t been talking health quite as much these days but the “Remember Balance in September” group set me on a good path to mindfulness. When people tell me that they just don’t have the time to devote to their wellness each day, I really do understand. I truly get it because I used to think and say that. I don’t know anyone who isn’t really busy. But, I realized that almost all of the OliveFab principles that helped me turn my health around are truly things that take almost no time at all!

I also realized that if I didn’t carve out small amounts of time to work on my health that my energy, my mood, my weight, my thinking, and my sleep were not quite where I wanted them to be for me to feel like my best, productive and happy self.

Without further adieu, I would love to share my favorite 5 tips to help ramp up your health. Each takes 60 seconds or less:

1. Start your day with warm lemon water. Warm lemon water first thing in the morning balances your pH, aids in digestion, acts as a natural diuretic, helps to purify your liver, aids in weight loss, and boosts your immune system, which is especially helpful as we enter the cold and flu season.


2. Smoothie for breakfast. This can be a super fast breakfast that I have definitely prepared in literally one minute. You can make smoothie freezer packs in individual bags to keep in the freezer or conveniently keep your fresh and dry ingredients within easy reach. It takes 30 seconds to throw my non-dairy milk, protein powder, frozen fruit of choice, greens of choice, and healthy fat (think almond butter or avocado) into the blender with some ice then another 30 seconds to blend, blend, blend. That’s it. Healthy, satisfying breakfast in under a minute. Great for on the go!

3. Make your own dressing. We all know that we need to do a better job of getting our servings of veggies in each day. There are so many ways to get the job done but salads seem to be an easy staple for everyone. The problem is we can often undo our well intentioned eating with really bad- for- you store bought salad dressings that can be loaded with sugar, preservatives, and sodium. If you don’t have a blender, throw your simple ingredients into a salad shaker or a mason jar. Olive oil, vinegar, lemon, and S&P is all you need. Vary the flavor by adding some of your favorite herbs. Keep it in the fridge and now when its salad time you know you’re truly eating exactly what you prepared with no hidden ingredients.

4. Take a probiotic. Probiotics are good bacteria. The bacteria in our gut can be out of whack when we eat processed foods and sugar, take antibiotics, and live in a world that is polluted with chemicals, and deal with daily stress. In less than a minute we can consume good bacteria daily as our first line of defense and support our immune system. You can try one and look for decreased stomach gurgling, increased energy levels, better skin, better sleep, and weight loss if you need to lose weight. You can find a good quality supplement and take it about 30 minutes after your morning lemon water. Another good way to get your probiotics is through cultured and fermented foods and drinks.
